May Ipsy Glambag Review – ‘Spring Fling’

Tags

, , , , , , , , ,

I’ve been a subscriber to Ipsy since January, and I’ve got to say this is the best Glambag yet! If you aren’t familiar with Ipsy, it’s a monthly subscription of 4-5 deluxe and full size beauty products that costs $10 per month (shipping is free). Your samples will also come in an Ipsy-designed cosmetics bag! If you’re interested in subscribing, please use my referral link HERE.

IMG_0584

This month’s bag featured the theme “Spring Fling” – and what a fling it is!  If you’re into spoilers, Ipsy does a nice job of posting sneak peeks of the products on their Facebook page. I always try not to look, but my curiosity gets the best of me and I always have a pretty good idea of what’s coming in my bag.

Each month there are a few either/or samples. Based on your beauty profile, the experts at Ipsy will select products they think you will love. This month, however, there were a number of either/or samples. I’ll showcase what came in my bag of course, but I’ll also give you a listing of what was in some of my fellow Ipsters’ bags too.  Enough chatter, let’s get to the goods! Here’s a pic of my samples:

1. Juice Beauty Reflecting Lip Gloss (Color: Fig)

JB

I’m thrilled with this one! This is a full size Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss in the color Fig. Juice Beauty uses the safest, local, organic and natural ingredients possible. This lip gloss smells like a fruit salad, is just shimmery enough, and has nice staying power. The color is a lovely raspberry shade, or well, Fig shade…but I think raspberry is a better color description. Other Ipsy subscribers received Mirabella lipstick in a variety of colors, lip liner, or perfecting powder also by Mirabella.

2. St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion

IMG_0589

I’m a total sucker for self-tanner, so this is perfect for me. I like a little extra color on my pasty white skin in the summer time…sometimes this stuff can be a little precarious to apply, so practice definitely makes perfect. Other subscribers received either a roll-on perfume or a bronzing body butter, both by Pacifica, instead of the St. Tropez.

3. Yaby Concealer Refill (Buff)

IMG_0592

This is probably the one thing that I’m least fond of, not that it’s not a great product, but I have a concealer that I like and don’t plan on deviating from. This Yaby concealer now lives in my little magnetic Glam RX Palette that came in the March Glambag.

4. Zoya Nail Polish (Neely – mint green)

IMG_0591

Every subscriber received a full-sized Zoya nail polish, I got the lovely mint green shade called Neely. I’m a big fan of Zoya and I’m happy with the color, which was from their Spring 2013 Lovely Zoya Collection.

5. NuMe Finishing Serum

IMG_0590

Hair oils and serums are pretty popular right now. I’ve tried a number of them, and I’m definitely a fan! This is a nice sized sample, and I thought it worked really well on my long, straight hair. Other subscribers received Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment.

I’d say Ipsy hit a homerun with their May Glambags, and they did a superb job matching me with the available samples…and getting full sized products is always a huge bonus! I’m interested to know if you’re an Ipsy subscriber, and what you thought of your May Glambag. And if you aren’t a subscriber…what are you waiting for? Join in the FUN!

Influenster Sugar ‘n Spice VoxBox 2013 Review

I received a little treasure trove of goodies this month..from Influenster! (If you aren’t familiar with Influenster, check out my earlier blog post: HERE. I was lucky enough to be selected to receive the Sugar ‘n Spice VoxBox, which was filled with all sorts of amazing, FREE products for me to test and review.

IMG_0386

voxbox-blogimage

So here we go…
Vaseline® Spray & Go Moisturizer Total Moisture® ($7.99 for 6.5 oz. can) I really liked this continuous-spray lotion, it didn’t have any overpowering scent, wasn’t greasy and was very easy to apply. Will be great for Spring and Summer when needing a lighter body lotion.

Dickinson’s® Original Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Towelettes ($5.99 for a 20-count box) These are great for on-the-go gals, and are perfect for a gym bag! They do remove your make-up, so be prepared for that. They leave a super fresh and clean feeling!

NECTRESSE™ ($6.99 for 5.9 oz container, or $3.99 for box of 40 packets) I’m not a huge fan of artificial sweeteners, so this is the only product that I haven’t tried…I’m more of a natural sugar person. But I will give this to my dad, who is only able to use an artificial sweetener…I’m sure he will enjoy it!

Colgate® Optic White® Regimen: Toothpaste ($2.99 for 4oz tube), Mouthwash ($2.99 for 8oz bottle), & Toothbrush ($2.99 per brush) Perfect timing, Influenster! I was ready for a new toothbrush, so this set is perfect! I started using this regimen right away and was very impressed…I noticed a brighter, whiter smile in about a week and a half.

belVita Breakfast Biscuits ($3.69 for a box of 5 packets of 4 biscuits) These little biscuits were delicious! I ate 2 biscuits plus a little Cutie orange for my mid-morning snack, and it kept me satisfied until lunch time. I received the Cinnamon Brown Sugar flavor. They are a good source of fiber, have 18-20 grams of whole grain per 50 gram serving, and they are totally yummy. I actually purchased a full-sized box of these over the weekend.

Get ready fashionistas, because another great collab is coming our way with Derek Lam (@DerekLamNYC) for Kohl’s DesignNation (@Kohls) debuting in stores on April 5th. Prices range from $36 to $88 and include pieces such as dresses, skirts, jackets and swimwear.   I checked out the collection online and I am definitely excited to go check it out.  The collection was inspired by Rio de Janeiro with tropical prints, flowing styles, bold colors and pretty pastels – “drawing from the city’s fusion of urban and jungle, past and present.”

You can check out the collection here: Derek Lam for Kohl’s

I’ve posted a few of my favorite looks below – let me know which ones are your favorites! And will you be heading to Kohl’s on Friday, April 5th to shop the collection?

Joe Fresh for JCPenney Review

Tags

, , , , , ,

I was intrigued when I first heard that JCPenney was launching a collab with Joe Fresh! So I decided to do some reconnaissance on my lunch hour and check out the new collection at my local store, which I found to be incredibly fun and, well, Fresh!

joefresh1

If you aren’t familiar with Joe Fresh, here’s the scoop: Joe Fresh was created by designer Joe Mimran and their stores are primarily found in Canadian shopping centers. The brand recently entered the American market with a few retail and pop up stores in New York City and surrounding areas. During the spring of 2012 Joe Fresh opened their international flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.  I think they can be compared to the pricing structure and styling of H&M, offering affordable prices and the latest trends, but also offers some of the clean silhouettes of retailers like J.Crew and Banana Republic.

joefresh2

As you can see from the pictures, the set design is vibrant, breezy and energetic.  I spied pastel skinny jeans with cute zipper details at the ankle, breezy silk blouses, lovely jacquard shorts in a myriad of colors, and easy shift dresses.  Also found were simple T’s and tanks, flip-flops for a mere $4 dollars, lightweight scarves and colorful belts. Items were mostly well-priced, but there were some items that I felt were overpriced, such as dresses for $69 and blazers for $49. Most of the items I took with me to the fitting room were either $16, $19 or $29, and I had one pair of pants for $39 in my hands…not too bad!

joefresh4

joefresh3

The verdict? I liked most of the various fabrics and textures, and the preppy-with-a-slight-edge styling. I have to be honest; I was impressed with the quality of many of the pieces. Many of the tops were made of nice, substantial fabric; and pants fit well and had a modern feel to them. Some of the fabrics did feel a bit stiff to me, such as the cardigans and some of the colored skinny jeans, although I imagine the jeans would soften with wear.

IMG_0365

The major piece that left little to be desired (and little to the imagination) was a very cute (on the rack) pair of off-white lace shorts. You will not see a picture of me in these because, well, let’s face it, it’s March and my legs are about the same color as the shorts! But they were completely see-thru! They were lined with a very thin off-white lining, which should have at least been a nude shade. You will see anything and everything beneath these…too bad, because they are pretty! Besides these shorts, there were definitely other pieces that didn’t thrill me, and struck me as somewhat cheaply made. But I chose to focus primarily on the high points here.

Sizes seem to be getting picked over online, so if you are interested in checking out the collection, I’d suggest heading to your local store for the best selection. Sizes range from 2 to 16 for most pieces, and XS to XXL for others not sized by numbers. I’ve read that the collection should be getting new styles monthly, so this one might warrant a look-see every so often.

Have you checked out the collection, either in stores on online? Tell me what you thought and which were your favorite pieces in the comments!

Jackie

The Wonders of Influenster!

Tags

, , , , , ,

I discovered Influenster about 2 months ago…I don’t remember how I came upon it, but I am really happy that I did! What is Influenster, you ask? Here’s how they refer to themselves:

Influenster is a free-to-join community of invited trendsetters who live to give opinions of products and experiences. Influenster creates links between brands and members to reward participation and influence future products.

influenster

Basically it’s a website that wants your opinion on all sorts of things…it’s a community of influential people who can qualify to receive free mailings with products to try. It doesn’t matter if your interests are fashion, style, and beauty products or camping, video games and travel – you can offer up your opinions on anything and everything. Along the way you will earn an ‘Influenster Score’ based on your interaction with the website, by providing answers and reviews on products, engaging with @Influenster on Twitter, and by submitting your blog, Pinterest page and Youtube Channel to the Influenster team. Answer questions and unlock Expert Badges on up to 5 Categories, adding to your overall Influenster score.

What’s in it for you, you ask? Well…as an Influenster with a high Score, you become eligible to earn a VoxBox! (A what?) A VoxBox! VoxBoxes are offered to specially selected Influensters and they are filled to the brim with the hottest products that interest you. Each box has a theme and designed around a specific program. No one is ever guaranteed a VoxBox, as it’s totally determined based on your interaction with the site.

voxbox

And this month, I’ve been selected to receive a VoxBox! [WOO HOO!] It’s theme is called the Sugar ‘n Spice VoxBox, and I should receive it soon. As an Influenster, and the recipient of a VoxBox, I’m required to review all the products and let you know my thoughts on them…so look for my reviews next week!

Head on over to Influenster and check it out! Even if you only have 5 minutes a day to devote to this, it could be worth it..and it’s fun!

Let me know what you think, or if you are already an Influenster! If you are interested in Influenster, send me a note to cosmosandcardigans@yahoo.com, or hit me up on twitter at @jackieschumi and I will send you an invite – but hurry, I’ve only got 5 to give out right now!

Ciao!

February Birchbox and Ipsy Glambag Reivew

Feb-Birchbox-Ipsy

Better late than never, right? I figured before the end of the month rolled around I had better get it together and post a review on my February Birchbox and Ipsy Glambags. If you have zero idea of what I’m talking about, there are monthly subscription boxes for just about everything these days! I’ll go over a few of the best in my next post….today, I’m going to review what I got in February.

First up, the February Birchbox. This month’s theme was Red Carpet Ready – how perfect since the Oscars are tonight!

bbox

Products included in my Birchbox are:Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel Square (you don’t see this in the picture because my hubby stole it straight away.) Yummy.

twistband Headband: I’m not a huge fan of these twistband thingys, I think they stretch out and the ends fray pretty badly. The jury is still out on this one.

Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Cream
: I really wanted to Love this! And I do love it, but the shade is just way off for me. I did try it, and I felt like I looked orange all day – not cool! I think it’s a great product, but not so much on my pasty winter skin.  I will stick with my Smashbox BB Cream – it’s incredible!

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips: At first I couldn’t believe that Birchbox sent me nipple/lip balm, BUT, after trying this I was totally sold! This lip balm makes my lips super soft, plump and gives them a lovely rosy seen. I actually purchased the full size of this one! You can find it here.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle: This was another good one! This leave-in mist detangles, shields hair from heat and damage, and is completely vegan! A little goes a long way, but this made my hair super soft and shiny. I purchased the full size version of this one too – find it here.

Next up, the February Ispy Glambag. This is only my second Ipsy bag and I was fairly impressed. While Birchbox sometimes adds food or ‘lifestyle’ samples, Ipsy is all about makeup and beauty products, which is awesome. Here’s the breakdown:

ipsy

Coastal Scents Shadow Palette Sample: First time trying Coastal Scents and I give it a solid B. The colors are nicely pigmented, but I had a lot of fallout onto my skin as I was applying it. I’ll use this sample, but I wouldn’t purchase from this company. Doesn’t compare to Urban Decay, although not much does when it comes to eye shadow!

PIXI Flawless & Poreless Primer: This was a nice size sample and a great product. I do use a facial primer (by Smashbox) so this one will be great for travel or when wanting to switch it up a bit. Target actually sells some of the PIXI line if you are looking for it.

POP Beauty Smokey Lash Kapow Mascara: Not too impressed with this mascara. It doesn’t coat all that well and I feel like it started to flake off by the end of my day. I’ll save this for weekends.

MICA Beauty Gel Eyeliner: This is my first foray into the gel eyeliner world and I love it! This was a great sized sample and I will definitely use it! The full size of this gel eyeliner retails for $30 bucks! Great sample!

The Lash Card, Lash Cards: These are junk. Who wants something else to hold while trying to apply mascara? Not me, that’s for sure!

So that’s the skinny on my subscription boxes for the month of February. I have to give Birchbox the A this month, because I liked 2 of the samples so much, it made me purchase the full size products. Ipsy was great, but nothing that I need the full size. Interested in subscribing to either Birchbox or Ipsy? Use the links below!

BIRCHBOX (use this link, please! if I refer friends I get a few extra Birchbox points – bonus!)

Up All Night…Prabal Gurung for Target Has Arrived!

Tags

, , ,

People tell me I’m crazy from time to time…but in this instance, it just might be a true. Whether you’ve seen the commercials, followed fashion blogs or stocked certain twitter accounts over the last few weeks in anticipation…Prabal Gurung for Target has ARRIVED!

Some of you may remember the chaos that was the Missoni for Target launch (where THIS happened!) back in September 2011. Since no one wanted a repeat of that, Target handled this launch quite differently. The website slowly populated with the collection in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday, February 10th, store employees demanded a little more order, and shoppers were informed that they were only permitted to purchase 5 of any one piece. I’m thinking this is to thwart the hoarders who purchase the entire stock of one store, put it on ebay and charge three (or more) times the original price. I think this practice is wrong…but I won’t dwell on that here.

Ok, so now that we’ve got all of that out of the way…let’s take a look at exactly why I’m so sleep deprived today! THE FASHION! If you aren’t familiar with Prabal Gurung, you should be. He launched his first collection during New York Fashion Week in 2009, and in that short amount of time he has absolutely skyrocketed to fame. He’s also dressed both First Lady Michelle Obama and The Duchess of Cambridge, which gives him real fashion street ‘cred!

Sources wouldn’t tell us exactly what time the collection would be available online, so I, along with thousands of other crazy fashionistsas throughout the country, waited patiently on pins and needles for some information from the @TargetStyle twitter and faccebook pages. Finally, at nearly 2:15 AM pieces started to trickle in online and I had my trigger finger ready to go!

I’ve posted pics of the pieces I snagged in my haul at the end of this post. I shopped exclusively online, didn’t hit any of the stores and was able to get everything I wanted.

So…was it worth the wait? And the missed sleep? YES! The collection is getting rave reviews and my items have shipped already, which is amazing!

I want to hear about your Prabal Gurung for Target haul – Tell me about it in the comments!

xoxo,
Jackie

p.s. I hear we’ll get a collab between Target and Sam & Libby this coming May!

Flash-Sale Sites…What’s All the Buzz About?

Tags

, , , , , , ,

Sam Edelman flat sandals for $40…YES, PLEASE! Half-price Seychelles…OH YEAH!

Have you jumped on the bandwagon of the Flash-Sale websites yet? If not, listen up! Get to know Hautelook, Gilt Groupe, Rue La La, Beyond the Rack, Ideeli, and many others! This is routinely how I spend my lunch hour (sshhhh…). These websites offer designer labels at bargain basement prices (most of the time).  Most flash sale sites require you to sign up via email to become a member. Once you’re a member, you receive daily emails of what they have on sale. Many of these sites feature products which have been heavily discounted.

 Here’s a breakdown of the top 6:

Gilt Groupe [www.gilt.com]
Gilt Groupe was the pioneer of the flash sale model. Gilt offers 36 hour private sales daily at 12pm. They offer flash sales on everything- designer clothes, housewares and gifts. Shipping is only $5.95. Items can be held in cart for 10 minutes.

Hautelook [www.hautelook.com]
HauteLook launched in December 2007 and has since been purchased by Nordstrom. The site has more than 5 million members in the United States and Canada. Flash sales start at 11pm EST and offers sale events for women, beauty, home, kids, men and travel.

Rue La La [www.ruelala.com]
Flash sales last for 1-3 days and open and close constantly. Rue la la has sales on designer clothing and accessories. They have also recently launched Rue La La Golf Club for sales on golf equipment and accessories. Shipping starts at $9.95.

My Habit [www.myhabit.com]
MyHabit is a designer flash sales website. Flash sales start at 12pm EST and last for 72 hours. Shipping is FREE and fast (returns are free too!) – generally orders arrive within 4 days. MyHabit is a flash sale site started by Amazon and they sell boutique and designer fashions.

Ideeli [www.ideeli.com]
Ideeli.com launched in December of 2007. It is the fastest growing flash sale site having tripled its membership in less than a year. Flash sales start at 12pm EST. Flash sales last for 40 hours or until the sale items are sold out. Most items ship for $9.95. Ideeli sells clothing, housewares, travel and more.

Beyond the Rack [www.beyondtherack.com]
Flash sales start at 11 AM EST and last for 48 hours. Shipping is $9.95. Beyond the Rack sells designer clothing and accessories.

My personal favorites are Hautelook and Gilt Groupe. And my latest find was this pair of gorge Sam Edelman flat sandals for $40 bucks (retail $90). After doing some very quick searching to make sure these were a great deal, I snagged them right up!

Hint: if you see an item that you think you might want…add it to your Cart immediately. You’ll have a fairly short amount of time to make your final decision. You have been warned…the good stuff goes fast! Return policies vary, so make sure you read the fine print.

But don’t be fooled; even though the flash sale sites might always seem like a great deal, there have been occasions where I’ve found an item on another website for a lower price. The moral of this story is…do your homework, make sure you’re getting a good deal, and have some fun!

Let me know what fab bargains you’ve snagged on flash-sale websites!

xoxo,
Jackie
